What is Commonwealth Solar II?

Commonwealth Solar II is a program offered by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, which was created by the Massachusetts Green Jobs Act of 2008. The program provides funding in the form of rebates to promote the installation of grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) systems in residential, commercial and public buildings.

Who are eligible for the Commonwealth Solar II?

The program provides rebates for residential installations of any size, and commercial systems up to 5 kW. Solar II is the second round of funding for the Commonwealth Solar program, which has granted rebates to more than 1,200 recipients for the installation of 23.5 MW worth of solar power, according to the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center.

The rebates are based on the size and other characteristics of the PV project. MassCEC, has reserves funds from its Renewable Energy Trust Fund, to support the Commonwealth Solar II Rebate Program, which will provide rebate funding in a block structure for commercial PV projects up to 10 kW (10,000 watts DC @ STC) in nameplate capacity and residential systems (regardless of size) with a rebate calculation capped at 5 kW.
