What is the Barker Welfare Foundation Grant?

The Barker Welfare Foundation’s mission is to award grants to eligible charitable organizations that have initiatives in improving the quality of living emphasizing on strengthening the youth and their families and to reflect their founder, Catherine Barker Hickox’s philosophy.

Who are eligible for Barker Welfare Foundation Grant?

Unless initiated or invited by the Foundation requests for funding are no longer accepted. Generally, as of present policy the appeals for the following situations are declined:

  1. Organization that are not located within or is directly serving the areas indicated in #2.
  2. National health, education agencies, welfare, funds or institutions.
  3. Scholarships, fellowships, student aid, loans and individual appeals.
  4. Scientific and medical research.
  5. Private secondary and elementary schools, universities, colleges, trade organizations and professional schools.
  6. Films, seminars, program advertising, conferences, fundraising costs and benefits.
  7. Start-up organizations, emergency funds, start-up programs and deficit financing.
  8. Legislative or lobbying-related activities.
  9. Intermediary organizations and endowment funds.

How to apply for Barker Welfare Foundation Grant?

Prior to the submission of a request, send a letter that is 2-3 pages long, a copy of the front page of the recent 990 filed with IRS and the current budget (inclusive of income and expense) of the whole organization. The organization must call first to be able to determine if they will fall within the Foundation’s current General Policy.
