Stanford Awards and Grants for Creative Writing

For undergraduate and graduate students studying in Stanford University and are pursuing career in creative writings, there are numerous grants for creative writing that they can apply. The grants are coming from the internal and external resources. These grants are available every year to deserving creative writing students. The university awards internal grants to its students having a good academic standing. He/she can apply to one of the following grants and assistantships: Chappell Lougee Scholarship, Haas Summer Fellowship. Departmental summer assistantship and summer internship.

ASSU Arts Grants

The ASSU grants assist students in terms of financial support that will enable students in creating different arts that will benefit the community of Stanford community. For more details about this grant, contact the ASSU Arts Grant Program. The deadline for submission of application is on November for the winter term and May for summer term. Grants available at UAR

The UAR also houses several grants. Submission of application must be submitted at the UAR office. Contact the UAR for more details of the grants.

  • Quarterly Grants in which recipient can receive cash grants of up to $1,500. Submission of application is set at the start of every quarter.
  • Major Grants are cash assistance intended for supporting in-depth and substantial projects that usually takes several quarters. The cash grant that recipients can receive is up to $5,200 and the deadline for application is set every March.
  • Chappell Lougee Scholarships are intended for sophomore students. Cash grant for this program is up to $5,200 with the deadline taking place every December.
  • Angel Grants are intended for helping students to produce a finished creative work for public. Recipients can receive as much as $3,000 and the deadline for application is at the start of every quarter.

External Grants

There are also grants coming from the outside in which arts and creative writing students can apply. Examples of these grants are the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program that is intended for the master’s and doctoral students. The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans are aimed for funding graduate studies for New Americans. The deadline for the application for these two grants is set at October and November respectively. Application is all available at the UAR.
