What is Assisi Foundation of Memphis, Inc. (The Foundation)Grants?

The Assisi Foundation of Memphis, Inc. (The Foundation) awards grants to established and innovative programs that address the immediate needs of the residents of the Mid-South area in terms of Human and Healthcare Services, Literacy and Education, Social Justice/Ethics, Cultural Enrichment and Arts.

The Foundation awards grants to organizations classified tax-exempt under the Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) and to public charities under the same Code in Section 509(a). The resources of the Foundation is used for charitable ventures that will promote the well-being of institutions and people located in the areas of Shelby, Fayette, Tipton counties in Tenessee, Desoto County in Mississippi and Crittenden County in Arkansas. The Foundation does not give grants to for-profit organizations and individuals.

Who are eligible for Assisi Foundation of Memphis, Inc. (The Foundation) Grants?

  • Geographic location: The Foundation considers nonprofit organization applying for grants that will provide services for the area of Greater Memphis: Shelby, Fayette, Tipton Counties in the area of Tennessee, Crittenden County in Arkansas and Desoto County in Mississipi.
  • IRS Status: The organization must have the IRS Code Section 501(c)(3) tax exemption status.
  • School systems: Requests must be from the Superintendent’s office of the public school systems. For universities or colleges applying for the grant, the request must come from the Office of the President or its equivalent office.
  • Multi-department/branch grantees: Grant requests coming from huge organizations with several branches or departments (e.g. universities, colleges, public libraries and YMCA) must go thru the President’s office or its equivalent office.
  • Grants are not award for or to:
    • individuals
    • national fundraising drives
    • projects addressing need of only 1 congregation
    • tickets for benefits
    • political candidates running for public office or their organizations
    • lobbying activities
    • recurring budget deficits
    • travel for competitions of athletes, tournament fees
  • Grants will not be made for:
    • program expenses occurring on a regular basis like annual workshop series, membership dues, medical equipment needed regularly or patient care
    • regularly supported fundraising activities of organizations
    • replacement of cuts in government funding
    • scholarships
    • perpetual support for ongoing programs
