Food and Nutrition Grants

Every day in American, millions of school children and students receive nourshing meals through the different Child Nutrition Programs, which includes the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program, and Summer Food Service Program.

We cannot underscore the fact that adequate and proper nutrition is an essential component to the learning environment and positively contributes to the health of each student. The federal government through the different agencies that work with them, is committed to ensuring that all citizens, most specially children and students have access to healthy meals.

Healthy and nourished children are prepared to take on life’s challenges. However, proper eating habits is also a key consideration. The United States Department of Agriculture Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) provides students with a fresh fruit or vegetable snack at school during the school day to increase their consumption of healthy foods, exposure to a variety of fruits and vegetables and promote a healthier school environment. The number of schools selected each year is based upon federal funding. Another food and nutrition program is the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).

Food and Nutrition grants are not just for children and students. Displaced people, the elderly as well as minorities are also given assistance through different grants.
