Grants for Being Gay

It is unfortunate that LGBT people (short for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) are being discriminated in today’s world. Whether it simple life, to education, to work and almost all aspect of life, they are being discriminated. However, times have changed and there are now voices that stand up for the rights of LGBT people. There are organizations that are giving grants for gay and the rest of LGBT individuals in order for them to succeed in life whether it is through education or community service.

Malyon Smith Scholarship Award

The Malyon Smith Scholarship through Society for the Psychological Study of Lesbian and Gay Issues is offering to give financial support to deserving researches of graduate student that focus on the psychological issues pertinent to LGBT groups or individuals. The cash grant is up to $1,000. Every year, the deadline of application is on February 1 and will be available after the 1st of November. Contact the following details for more information:

Live Out Loud

The Live Out Loud and its annual scholarship is a program providing three scholarships to LGBT students and their allies. They must made major contributions to their community and society through the motto of the organization, which is “living out loud”. The cash assistance is up to $3,000 and is open to all high school seniors that are graduating. Students who also deferred entering educational institution for one year after subsequent to graduation are also welcome to apply. The selection of the recipients is based on the following criteria: academic excellence, essay, involvement in the community? service and leadership, interview, recommendation letters (two), and need for financial assistance as well as goals for the future. National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association

The National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association or simple NLGJA is providing many scholarships as well as grants to LGBT students who are interested in the field of journalism. The grants include the Leroy F. Aarons Scholarship that will award cash grants of $5,000 and the application deadline is on February 1 yearly; the Bob Ross Student Scholarship that will award cash grants of $1,000 with the deadline in July yearly and lastly, the Excellence in Journalism Awards that will award cash grant of $500 up to $1,000.
