What is Transportation Planning Grant Program?

Transportation Planning Grants are intended to promote a balanced, comprehensive multi-modal transportation system in the State of California. The Federal and State goals provide a framework for the grant programs. Transportation Planning Grant funds are available for planning projects that improve mobility and lead to the planning, programming, and implementation of transportation improvement projects.

Who are eligible for the Transportation Planning Grant Program?

The following may apply directly or as a sub-recipient:

  • Metropolitan Planning Organizations and Regional Transportation Planning Agencies
  • Cities and Counties
  • Transit Agencies
  • Native American Tribal Governments

The following may apply only as a sub-recipient:

  • Universities and Community Colleges
  • Community-Based Organizations
  • Non-Profit Organizations (501.C.3)
  • Public Entities

How to apply for the Transportation Planning Grant Program?

Applications must be done online. Complete the PDF version of the application form provided at http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/tpp/grants.html. Applications are due via email by 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2011.

How much funding is available for the Transportation Planning Grant Program?

Budget $3 Million. Grant cap $300,000.
